How to Remove a Shower Drain Cover
How to Remove a Shower Drain Cover
Every one of us has, at one point or some point, been a victim of hair blocking the drain. If your bathtub drains slow or you're surrounded in the middle by a few inches of water that is soapy during every shower, the cause is likely to be the cover of your drain. It's a simple fix so long as you understand how to correctly remove a bathtub drain cap.
There are a variety of drain covers for showers, and each one comes with its own set of instructions for its removal. These are the most commonly used shower drain covers we usually encounter:
- Drain covers that pop up: They generally come off in a straight line, but some might need some wiggle work.
- Screw-in: Screw-in drain covers look like a strainer. To remove them, you simply remove the screw with the screwdriver that is appropriate and take them off.
- Toe-touch: shower drains that are appropriately named because they can be opened and closed by a simple press on the tip of your toe. To get rid of this kind of drain, take the drain out of the open position and then remove the cap. (Remember lefty loose, righty tight!) If that doesn't work, try an opening for a screwdriver to allow the removal from the whole mechanism.
Do you not see your shower drain's cover above? Don't be alarmed! We also offer services for flip-it, turn-and-lif, push/pull, and almost any other drain cover that is available.
Unblocking the shower drain
If you're struggling with an annoying clog beneath the drain cover of your shower, there are several DIY and store-bought solutions which can offer temporary relief. These include a drain tool to remove hair clogs, baking soda, vinegar, or even the plunger to help clear the blockage.
Be aware that these are quick solutions and must be followed by calling the plumber in order to prevent the build-up from happening again or advancing further to the drainpipe.
